glitch in the matrix saves goal

ok, so i first saw this on barstool sports last night.  and i didn't want to write about it because i'm trying to be original.  then it became the front page of yahoo (which is one of the all time top 3 things i hate, but that's another blog for another time), and i really didn't want to write about it.  but i have watched this clip like 4 million times, and it's one of the most unexplainable things i have ever seen.

it happened 3 days ago.  i'm kinda surprised it's not a bigger story.  the only explanation i can think of is that the puck hit a groove in the ice and changed direction.  but is that even possible?  i've never heard of that happening.  something is not right here.  this is scary.

  1. Wow that's pretty crazy.

OK so I rarely watch hockey, and I haven't looked at any of the other websites that discuss this video, but here is my take on it. I think it's partially an optical illusion caused by the perspective of the camera. (On the youtube video, go to page #4 of the comments and look for a comment by kvnrourke1 which explains this theory.) It's also possible that as the puck came down and hit the ice, it actually did change direction slightly. Maybe this happened because the puck was tumbling as it fell, or because it hit a groove in the ice. Or maybe it's a combination of all of the above.

If there were a third camera angle available, that would help figure out the mystery!
