Now here's where it gets interesting. The second best QB in the AFC East has easily been Harvard alum Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Bills, His 46 pts ranks him 5th best among NFL QB's. Just two slots behind him is former Michigan Wolverine Chad Henne of the Dolphins, with 43 pts that rank him as the 7th best QB in football. After that if, you go WAY down the list, coming in tied for 15th in the league among QB's, is the Jets Mark Sanchez with 30 pts.
Yes, it's only been two games. Yes it's a very small sample. Yes, i'm using fantasy scoring (although ANY stats you use would have Brady and Fitzpatrick way ahead of Sanchez, but it is debatable whether or not he's been worse than Henne) which is by definition not real. But I maintain an argument that I have been saying for a while now. The Jets have been a good team the past two years in spite of Mark Sanchez, not because of him.
C'mon, this is either your laziest blog or you're just trying to incite Jets fans. Henne put up huge fantasy numbers in week 1 because he played against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL and struggled against last years worst pass defense in week 2. Fitz (great story) put up big numbers in a week 1 game against a team that's been outscored 80-something to 10 by the Bills and Lions. He then had to throw the hell out of the ball because they fell behind Oakland by 21. Sanchez went for 300+ & 2 tds against a Rob Ryan defense in week 1 against a Dallas team quite a few people have winning the NFC east this year. And in week 2, the Jets didn't even need an offense to beat the Jags. Sanchez is not an elite QB and no rational Jets fan will argue otherwise. But he's 4-2 as a starter in the playoffs with 60% completion rate. Is he as important to the Jets as Brady is to the Pats? Of course not. But he stays healthy and doesn't wilt in big moments for them. And yeah, the jets are a defense & running team, so some of his wins are a result of that system. But hey, Tom Brady owes two of his SB rings to the sane formula.
ReplyDeletesteve, i like your fire. but your complicating it. all i'm saying is that through 2 games there is a reasonable argument to be made that sanchez has been the worst qb in the division. and i was trying to excite pats fans more than incite jets fans.
